Today is a first for me. I'm diving into the world of modular electric motorbikes with the Gavares Lite. This little two-wheeler is a chameleon, changing to suit your needs. Whether you're zipping through city traffic or hauling cargo, the Lite has you covered - apparently. Your personal Transformer, but instead of fighting Decepticons, it's conquering your to-do list.

Let's talk about this bike's party trick: its modular design. Almost like magic, it effortlessly switches from a nimble commuter to a hardworking cargo hauler. Need to pick up some groceries? Swap out the passenger seat for a spacious cargo box. Got a delivery gig? Attach a sturdy rack and load it up. This versatility makes the Lite a practical choice for both personal and professional use.

This little electric wonder comes standard with everything you need for a safe and enjoyable ride. Full LED lighting ensures you're visible even in the darkest of nights, while hydraulic disc brakes provide reliable stopping power. The smart cockpit keeps you connected with app integration, smartphone support, and a keyless system. And for those long rides, dual USB charging ports keep your devices powered up. It's like having a personal assistant on two wheels!

The Lite's compact 3kW or 5.5kW powertrain (that's about 4 or 7.5 horsepower for my fellow Americans) is surprisingly peppy. It may not win any drag races, but it'll get you where you need to go with a smile on your face. While this little electric firecracker won't break any land speed records, it’ll go the distance, even on a single battery - 80 km precisely, or about 50 miles. Need to go a little further? Slap in a second battery and you’re practically doubling your range.

It turns out that putting the second battery in ups the top speed from 80 km/h to 95 km/h.  That's enough to feel the wind in your hair, even if it's just a gentle breeze. And when it's time to refuel, just plug it in for a 4-hour DC charge or swap batteries on the go. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy!

While the Lite is interesting on its own, this is where things get really interesting. Gavares is embracing the open-source concept, inviting third-party tinkerers to create their own add-ons. They want it to be an IKEA for electric motorbikes – you get the basic structure, but the personalization is all you.

The Gavares Lite is a breath of fresh air in the electric motorbike world. It's fun, adaptable, and embraces the open-source community. It may not be the fastest or most powerful, but it's a practical and affordable option for urban commuters and delivery professionals. Plus, with its modular design, you can customize it to your heart's content.

So, if you're looking for an electric motorbike that's a little less conversation and a little more action, the Gavares Lite might just be your perfect ride. The company is starting its journey in Indonesia but has its sights set on global domination. With plans to expand to other Asian countries and Europe, this little motorbike is ready to take on the world.

Anna McDee

Anna McDee, mother of two (bless their socks!), is a degreed engineer with a toolbox full of stories. After years of toiling behind the scenes, conjuring up technical marvels, she finally emerged, blinking into the sunlight. She discovered that electric propulsion can be fun, and decided to share her tales with the world. From dissecting the inner workings of a family minivan to pondering the aerodynamics of a soccer ball, Anna's curiosity is as boundless as a toddler's energy. Her writing is a delightful blend of technical insight, mom-isms, and the occasional "Eureka!" moment, usually accompanied by a celebratory cup of tea.
