India's Electric Darling Rides into Europe: Will It Steal Our Hearts (and Wallets)?

Surprise, surprise - the winds of change are blowing all the way from India! Wait… India? Motorcycles? Electric? You betcha! A company called Ultraviolette, based in Bengaluru, is about to shake things up in the European electric motorcycle scene.

Ultraviolette has just inked a deal with a rather snazzy distributor, MotoMondo, and they're setting their sights on the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. That's right, my friends, the F77 Mach 2 Recon – their flagship electric steed – is packing its bags and heading across the pond. It's a big, bold move, not just for Ultraviolette but for the whole "India-is-getting-serious-about-electric-two-wheelers" movement. Who knew, right?

For too long, the electric motorcycle conversation has been dominated by our friends in Europe and, well, let's just say a certain country known for its rapid industrial growth. But now, India is revving up its electric motors, and Ultraviolette seems to be leading the charge. They've got a booming local market, a growing ecosystem for all things electric, and they're casting their gaze towards Europeans who are increasingly warming up to the idea of silent, emission-free rides.

What's the F77 Mach 2 Recon all about? Not just a pretty face, it turns out. This electric beauty boasts a 10.3 kWh battery pack, it churns out a peak of 40.5 horsepower (that's about 30.2 kilowatts for you techy types) and a rather respectable 73.75 pound-feet of torque - that puts it in the same ballpark as a decent mid-sized naked bike. Not too shabby at all!

The Ultraviolette F77 can hit a top speed of 96 mph, and it has a maximum range of 201 miles under ideal city conditions. We all know what "ideal city conditions" means - slow and steady. But even if it's a tad less in the real world, that's still enough juice to zip around town and maybe even take a cheeky weekend trip.

The F77 Mach 2 Recon gets a fancy 5-inch TFT display with all the smartphone bells and whistles, dynamic ride modes to suit your mood (or the weather), switchable regenerative braking (fancy way of saying it charges a bit when you slow down), and over-the-air updates. Yes, just like your phone, your motorcycle can get updates while you sleep.

And for the discerning rider, it also features fully adjustable suspension, 17-inch alloy wheels, disc brakes front and rear for stopping power that doesn't quit, and dual-channel ABS to keep your shiny side up. They've really thought of everything, haven't they?

The moolah time - Ultraviolette is offering an introductory on-road price of £8,499 (that's roughly $10,500 of your lovely American dollars) for pre-orders made before June 30th, 2025. After that, the price nudges up to £9,399 (around $11,600 USD). That puts it right in the thick of things with other mid-range electric bikes in Europe. And honestly, for what you're getting, it sounds like a rather tempting proposition.

When you stack it up against the competition, like the Zero S and the LiveWire S2 Del Mar, the F77 Mach 2 Recon holds its own. While the Zero S might offer a bit more range in some configurations, the Ultraviolette undercuts it on price. And compared to the LiveWire Del Mar, the F77 offers similar urban thrills without breaking the bank quite as much. So, for riders looking for a high-tech, electric motorcycle that won't empty their wallets but still offers decent range and features, the F77 might just be the winning ticket.

The bigwigs at Ultraviolette are understandably chuffed about this European adventure. Narayan Subramaniam, the CEO and co-founder, called the deal with MotoMondo a "major milestone." Jan Ykema from MotoMondo seems equally excited, saying that the F77's blend of performance and eco-friendliness fits perfectly with the growing demand for greener rides in Europe's towns and cities.

Unfortunately, for riders on this side of the pond, there's no official word on a stateside release right now. But Ultraviolette's foray into Europe is a clear signal that the new wave of Indian motorcycle manufacturers is serious about playing on the world stage. And they're bringing some seriously exciting electric firepower with them. So, keep your eyes peeled - the electric revolution is happening, and it's coming from all corners of the globe!
