Is the Stark Varg SM About to Electrify Your Commute? And Your Soul?

Stark Varg EX

2025 Stark Varg EX

My hair is practically standing on end with excitement! You know, I've seen a few "revolutionary" motorcycles before, and some of them… Let's just say the only thing they revolutionized was the art of disappointment. But the Stark Varg SM? This bike has got me feeling like a kid in a candy store. And it's my favorite kind of candy - lightning-fast and shockingly quiet.

Remember when Stark announced their electric dirt bike, the Varg? Yeah, me too. I thought, "Oh, another one promising the moon on a stick." But guess what? They delivered! And now, they're bringing us a street-legal supermoto version. Just conquering the dirt wasn't enough, apparently.

Numbers? Oh, the numbers don't lie. There are two power options: a 60-horsepower version that'll have the Husqvarna and KTM boys sweating, and an 80-horsepower beast that'll make the Hypermotard and SMC R riders feel like they're riding a snail. And with a torque figure of about 700 lb-ft, you'll be pulling wheelies like you're auditioning for a circus.

And the wheels? We're ditching the 21-inch front and 18-inch rear for some sexy 17-inchers. And the suspension travel? Probably less than the EX's 11.8 inches up front and 11.9 inches in the rear. Weight-wise, the EX tips the scales at 264 pounds. With the smaller wheels and less fancy suspension, the SM should be a bit lighter. Which is good news for us mere mortals who don't have the upper body strength of a professional wrestler.

Here's where my eyebrows start to arch. The battery. The EX version, which the SM is based on, has a 7.2-kWh battery pack that's good for six hours of trail time. But on the street, especially if you're riding like you stole it (and trust me - you will be), that range is gonna drop like a lead balloon. It'll be more "Where's the nearest charging station?" than "Where's the horizon?"

Now, the price. The EX is $12,900 -  not exactly pocket change. But for a bike that's so good, it got banned from the X-Games? Maybe it's worth it. As for the SM's price? Your guess is as good as mine. But if it's anything like the EX, you might want to start saving those pennies.

The Stark Varg SM has got that "it" factor. It's the kind of bike that makes you want to throw caution to the wind and just ride. It's the kind of bike that makes you smile, even when you're stuck in traffic. So, would I consider it? I'm already clearing space in my garage. And you should, too. Because this isn't just a bike. It's a revolution on two wheels.

And about the X-games ban? They say it's to level the playing field. I say they are just scared. Scared of the future. Scared of the electric revolution. And I love it.
