Maeving Into The US: The Electric Bike With A British Twang

Electric Motorcycle Maeving RM1S - Captain Electro

Oh, joyous day! The British have finally decided to grace our shores with their electric two-wheeled marvel, the Maeving RM1S. Just when I thought America had it all, we get this cheeky motorbike trotting our way. First tea, now this!

In the land of crumpets and the Queen, Maeving's not-so-humbly named RM1 and the juicier RM1S have been making a ruckus. And why not? A bike designed by ex-Triumph engineers? Yes, please. It’s like combining James Bond with... well, an electric James Bond.

For those unfamiliar, the RM1 focuses on city dwellers tired of the same ol' vanilla scooters zipping around. A bike with character! And dare I say, a Bosch motor? A Samsung battery? It's as if someone threw a tech store into a motorcycle.

But here’s the meat and potatoes: The RM1 tops out at 45 mph with a range of 40 miles. A pure city slicker. Priced around $7,500 in the old currency conversion game, it's not too shabby. But the RM1S? Oh, it's the big brother you always wanted. More power, an impressive 65 mph, and 80 miles of electrifying roaming – and all for just $9,400 (or thereabouts). To put that into perspective, it’s like BMW’s CE 02 had a British cousin. Twice removed.

Under its polished hood, the RM1S boasts a motor with a peak of 14 hp (compared to RM1's 5.9 hp). And those batteries? They’ve had an upgrade too. Instead of the Samsungs, they’re now rocking the latest LG 21700 cells. For those who flunked battery school, that means more juice - up to 5.2kWh total capacity. All this power and it's only 13 pounds heavier than its younger sibling. I'm no mathematician, but those numbers seem rather enticing.

Despite all its techy bits, Maeving has an interesting approach. Their RM1 wasn't made to launch you into the next galaxy. It was made for beginners. A gentle introduction into the world of biking. And the RM1S? Expect more of the same user-friendly riding modes. How very... considerate.

Charging, that eternal electric conundrum. The original RM1 had a bit of a hokey-cokey with the batteries - in, out, in, out, shake them all about. But the RM1S? A step up! You can now charge both batteries simultaneously. Still, if you fancy a bit of the hokey-cokey, there’s an option for that too.

“The RM1S is what riders have been begging for,” says Will Stirrup, a co-founder of Maeving, with a hint of British pride. The RM1 may be the apple of many riders' eyes, but the RM1S? It’s for those craving a bit more oomph.

Details on the US invasion are still a bit hush-hush. But Maeving plans to march onto our lands by Q3 of 2023. For those itching to get in line, there’s a waitlist.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to dust off my tea set. The British are coming, and I need to be prepared.
