Polestar Goes Full Viking: Ice Racing EVs That'll Make You Say "Uff Da!"

Polestar, the Swedish purveyor of electric vehicular wonders, has gone snow crazy. They've taken their already impressive lineup of EVs – the 2, the 3, and the 4 – and given them a makeover that would make a Viking warrior proud. These Arctic Circle Polestars are something else entirely. They literally are the automotive equivalent of a polar bear wearing a tuxedo – unexpected, for sure. But undeniably cool.

Let's start with the Polestar 2 Arctic Circle. This dual-motor beast, already packing a respectable 469 horsepower, has been given a 1.2-inch suspension lift. And if that wasn't enough, they've slapped on some three-way adjustable Öhlins dampers. But the real magic lies in the Pirelli studded tires, wrapped around rally-style OZ Racing wheels. These tires are the crampons of the car world, and they dig into the ice with the tenacity of a beaver on a mission.

And because no self-respecting Viking would venture into the wilderness without proper gear, the Polestar 2 Arctic Circle also sports a Thule roof rack, complete with ski mounts and a set of all-terrain skis from Black Crows. Because, you know, when you're not busy tearing up the ice, you might as well hit the slopes.

Next up is the Polestar 3 Arctic Circle. This 510-horsepower behemoth gets a 1.6-inch lift, which is like giving it a pair of stilts. It also boasts a custom roof basket, perfect for hauling all your Viking loot, and a set of snow ladders, in case you need to climb out of a crevasse or scale a frozen waterfall. And because every Viking needs his tools, there's a heavy-duty equipment case strapped to the roof. You never know when you might need to fix a broken axe or sharpen your sword.

Last but not least, we have the Polestar 4 Arctic Circle. This 536-horsepower rocket gets a modest 0.8-inch lift, but it more than makes up for it with a drift-style hydraulic handbrake. Yup. A hydraulic handbrake. Somebody must have thought: "What's the point of driving on ice if you can't do some epic drifts?" This car is basically begging you to unleash your inner hooligan.

These cars are just for show, right? Polestar would never actually sell something this crazy. Or would they? Remember the Polestar 2 BST Edition 270? That started as a one-off prototype before it made its way to showrooms. So, there's a glimmer of hope that we might actually see these Arctic Circle editions on the road someday.

Polestar's CEO, Michael Lohscheller, has hinted that he wants to "highlight the performance of our cars a little more." 4 And the rest of the Arctic Circle concepts are certainly a statement of intent. These Arctic Circle Polestars are a testament to the brand's "unique performance DNA, rooted in motorsport and combined with Scandinavian design." They're a wild reminder that even in the age of electric cars, there's still plenty of room for a bit of fun and a touch of automotive madness.

I really hope that these Arctic Circle editions make it into production. Who wouldn't want to drive an electric car that's ready to take on the Arctic? It's the kind of car that makes you want to grow a beard, wear a horned helmet, and shout "Valhalla!" while doing a donut on a frozen lake. Or maybe that's just me.
