EX30 Cross Country: My Little Electric Mountain Goat!

Oh my goodness, have you seen it? Volvo's gone and done it again! Just when I thought they couldn't possibly top the regular EX30 – which, by the way, is adorable – they unleash this beast: the 2026 Volvo EX30 Cross Country. The recipe is simple - they took a regular EX30, gave it a shot of espresso, and told it to go climb a mountain. And, it listened.

The EX30 Cross Country is really something special. It's the first electric Volvo to get the Cross Country treatment, which, as you know, usually means a raised ride height, some rugged-looking bits, and all-wheel drive. Since this is Volvo, it's more of an automotive equivalent of a cozy cabin in the woods – practical, stylish, and ready for anything. Well, almost anything.

This little electric mountain goat boasts the same powertrain as the regular dual-motor EX30, which means you get a rather zippy 422 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. That's enough to make even me giggle with delight. And the battery? A 64.0-kWh pack that Volvo estimates will give you a range of around 264 miles. Not bad, not bad at all. And when you inevitably run out of juice, you can plug it into a DC fast charger and get back to 80% in just 26 minutes. That's definitely faster than it takes me to decide what to wear in the morning!

But the Cross Country magic doesn't stop there. Oh no. Volvo has gone all out to make this EX30 extra special. It's got a 0.7-inch lift compared to the standard model, skid plates to protect its tummy from rocks and such, and those flared over-fenders give it a certain je ne sais quoi. And the wheels! 18 inches of pure ruggedness, with the option for all-terrain tires. They're practically begging you to take it off-road.

And the details! Volvo, you've outdone yourselves. The dark grey panels add so much dimension, and the topographic etching of the Kebnekaise mountain range on the front? Pure genius. A subtle nod to its Swedish roots that puts a smile on my face. And those door panels, designed to look like granite? Just fabulous.

Volvo's even offering a "Cross Country Experience" package, which includes discounts on all-terrain tires, roof baskets, and mud flaps – all the essentials for a proper adventure. And if you're feeling really adventurous, you can even rent a cabin in Swedish Lapland and have an EX30 Cross Country waiting for you. This truly is a winter wonderland dream come true.

Volvo hasn't officially announced the prices yet, but I'm guessing it'll be around $50,000. Which, let's be honest, is a bit of a splurge. But you get what you pay for. And in this case, you're getting a stylish, capable, and electric SUV that's ready for anything. And honestly? I kind of want one. Maybe in that dark grey… with the all-terrain tires… and the roof basket… Oh, the possibilities!
