Kia EV6 GT Is Here To Upset Supercar Crowd
Today, I'm back behind the wheel (figuratively, of course, because I'm writing this at my kitchen table) with the latest scoop from the electric car world. You know how much I adore my EVs, but sometimes, just sometimes, I feel like they need a little… pizzazz. A bit of oomph. A sprinkle of "vroom vroom" even though, technically, there's no "vroom" to be had.
That's where the updated 2025 Kia EV6 comes in, sashaying onto the scene like it owns the place. Kia took this already snazzy electric SUV, gave it a little nip and tuck. And – wait for it – boosted the horsepower in the GT model to a mind-boggling 641. That's 641 horses of silent, electric fury.
Look, this much power in a family car is a bit like giving a squirrel a jetpack. Adorable, sure, but also slightly terrifying. But if Kia wants to give us the electric equivalent of a cheetah on roller skates, I say bring it on!
So, what else is new with this electrifying ride? For starters, it's got a fresh new face, with sharper headlights that look like they're ready to laser-beam their way through traffic. The interior has also gotten a bit of a makeover, with a bigger touchscreen (because apparently, 12 inches just wasn't enough) and some swanky new materials. It seems Kia decided to give the EV6 a spa day and a shopping spree all rolled into one.
But the real magic, of course, is hiding under that unique body. The base model now has a larger battery, giving it a respectable range of – drumroll, please – 319 miles. That's just enough to get you from Alabama to Mississippi and back without having to stop and plug in. (Though you might want to stop for a bathroom break at some point. Just sayin'.)
If you feel the need for speed, you can opt for the GT model. It has that insane horsepower I mentioned earlier and it also comes with a new "Virtual Gear Shift" feature. You're probably wondering: "Virtual gear shift? In an electric car? What in the world?" Apparently, it simulates the feeling of shifting gears in a gas-powered car, complete with fake engine noises. Because, you know, sometimes we just miss the roar of an engine, even if it's completely unnecessary in an EV.
But then again, whatever floats your boat (or, in this case, your electric car). I'm just happy to see car manufacturers like Kia pushing the boundaries of what's possible with electric vehicles. And who knows, maybe one day we'll have electric cars that can fly (forgot, we already do). Or teleport. Or make us a cup of coffee while we're stuck in traffic. (Okay, maybe that last one is a bit far-fetched, that's what RVs are for)
Here are some specs you've been waiting for:
Power Outputs: The base model has a single rear-mounted motor producing 167 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. The other trims have a rear-mounted motor producing 225 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. Adding a second motor for all-wheel drive boosts output to 320 hp and 446 lb-ft. And then there's the GT model, which boasts a whopping 641 hp and 568 lb-ft of torque in GT mode.
Battery Capacity: The base model has a 63.0 kWh battery, while all other trims have an 84.0 kWh battery pack.
Price: Kia hasn't announced official pricing yet, but expect a slight increase from the 2024 model.
The 2025 Kia EV6: a stylish, powerful, and slightly quirky electric SUV. And if you're lucky enough to snag the GT model, you might even be able to outrun a squirrel with a jetpack. Or pretty much any supercar.
