Is that a minivan or an SUV? Citroen's C3 Aircross EV needs an attitude adjustment
Citroen's back with yet another quirky crossover, and this time it's all about maximizing passenger capacity... at the expense of style, apparently. They've stretched their existing budget platform like a pizza dough, and bam! – the C3 Aircross is born! They've even managed to cram a third row of seats in there, turning it into the automotive equivalent of those nesting dolls. Cute, maybe. Stylish? Not a chance. I see they're really embracing the whole "soccer mom chic" aesthetic.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the versatility. But did anyone consider how these family-friendly crossovers are supposed to be the anti-minivan? These things were made for adventure, or at least pretending to take the road less traveled. The C3 Aircross EV, with its extra seats and boxy styling, screams "grocery store run" louder than a cranky toddler.
I get it, hauling kids and groceries can be an adventure in itself. But wasn't the crossover trend supposed to be all about looking ready for a rugged escape, even if the closest you get to the wilderness is a manicured park? The C3 Aircross EV is about as rugged as a fluffy bathrobe. Sure, ditching the curves was a bold choice. But why so serious, Citroen? It's got zero off-road pretensions anyway, so why not have some fun with the design? And let's not even start on that grille. They might as well have built the whole car around their logo.
Alright, enough about the looks – it is what's inside that counts, right? Well, Citroen sure thought so. Power-wise, the EV version is more 'eco' than 'ego'. Don't expect blistering acceleration, unless you're counting zero to a brisk walking pace. Range ain't bad though, a solid 250+ miles (402 km) means fewer panicked charging stops.
Inside, expect all the practicality you can wish for – loads of cupholders, wipe-down surfaces, and those third-row seats that are best suited for very flexible passengers. You know, contortionists, small dogs, or perhaps that annoying kid from next door whose parents won't come pick them up.
The Citroen C3 Aircross EV gets the job done. It's practical, relatively (hopefully) affordable, and offers the eco-conscious option. But it's missing that spark – that je ne sais quoi that makes a car more than just a mode of transport. Citroen, give me something with a bit of personality, a dash of fun, and then maybe I'll consider ditching my beloved minivan... though those automatic sliding doors are hard to beat.
