Holy Smokes! Chevy's Electric Blazer EV.R Wants to Melt the Asphalt

I've seen some contraptions in my time, but this newfangled electric beast from Chevrolet… it's enough to make even a seasoned gearhead like myself raise an eyebrow. They're calling it the Blazer EV.R, and the "R" must stand for "Ridiculous" because this thing is bonkers.

I was never the one to be first to jump on the electric bandwagon. I mean, where's the glorious roar of a V8? Where's the smell of burning rubber and high-octane fuel? But even I have to admit, this electric Blazer has a certain… "je ne sais quoi". Chevy has literally taken the heart of a NASCAR racer, the brains of a Silicon Valley tech bro, and the body of a Blazer, and mashed it all together into one glorious, tire-shredding monster.

This electric powerhouse boasts over 1,300 horsepower. Thirteen hundred. From three electric motors! One in the front, two in the back. They've pretty much strapped a rocket to a skateboard and called it a family car. Well, not really a family car. More like a "leave the family at home because this is just for me" car.

And the battery? A 78-kilowatt-hour liquid-cooled unit. Which probably means it can do a couple of laps around Daytona at warp speed. They're not saying exactly how long it'll last on the track, but I'm guessing it's less than the time it takes to brew a decent cup of coffee.

Chevy's being all coy about the new wild Blazer, saying this is just a prototype, a testbed for future technology. But I'm not buying it. They showed this off at Daytona for crying out loud! They want the world to see what they can do. And what they really can do, apparently, is build an electric car that can probably outrun a cheetah on roller skates.

The design? Well, it's a Blazer, but on steroids. Lower, wider, with more aerodynamic gizmos than you can shake a stick at. They've even turned it into a two-door. And the wheels! Center-lock racing wheels wrapped in Goodyear Eagle tires. This thing looks like it's ready to take on the world… or at least the Daytona 500.

They even had NASCAR Xfinity Series Champion Justin Allgaier take it for a spin. I can just imagine him grinning from ear to ear, the electric motors whining like a banshee, the tires screaming for mercy. He probably had to change his underwear afterward.

That's all well and good, but what about the real Blazer EV? Turns out the road-going version is no slouch either. The SS model boasts a respectable 615 horsepower and can hit 60 mph in 3.4 seconds. Not quite as insane as the EV.R, but still enough to put a smile on your face… or maybe scare you half to death.  And the range? A decent 303 miles. Not bad for an electric car. The price? A hefty $62,490. But when you realize you are paying just over $100 per every one of those electric ponies, it somewhat makes it easier to digest.

The Chevy Blazer EV.R is a glimpse into the future of electric racing… or maybe just a really expensive toy for some lucky gearhead. Either way, it's sure to raise a few eyebrows. I'm just excited to see what they come up with next. Maybe an electric pickup truck that can tow a house? Wait - GMC Sierra can do that already! Or an electric motorcycle that can outrun a rocket? That's already been done! Oh boy, the future is getting slightly terrifying.
