It's Monday, and I'm back with another electrifying tale from the world of two-wheeled wonders. This time, we're zooming in on Ola Electric's Roadster lineup – a trio of e-motorcycles that promise to deliver decent performance without burning a hole in your pocket.

You might recall Ola Electric as the Indian mobility company that teased us with a glimpse of their full-size electric motorcycles last August. Well, the wait is over! Ola has finally spilled the beans on the specs of their Roadster family, and it turns out these bikes are packing some serious punch.

First things first - the numbers. The Roadster lineup comprises three main models: the standard Roadster, the Roadster X, and the Roadster Pro. That's the simple bit - it gets a bit more complicated. The standard Roadster has its own mini-family, which comes in three battery capacity options: 3.5 kWh, 4.5 kWh, and a chunky 6 kWh, and each model takes its name from the battery size. Similarly, the Roadster X offers 2.5 kWh, 3.5 kWh, and 4.5 kWh battery choices. And finally, the Roadster Pro stands alone with a single 16 kWh battery configuration. Phew! That's seven different models altogether! Did you catch all that?

So the Roadster 6 - that's the Roadster with a 6 kWh battery - boasts a peak power of 13 kW, propelling it to a top speed of 78 mph (126 km/h). It'll also spring from 0 to 25 mph (0 to 40 km/h) in 2.6 seconds. Not too shabby for an entry-level electric bike, eh? Riders can choose between four riding modes: Hyper, Sport, Normal, and Eco. Opt for the Eco mode, and you'll squeeze out an impressive 154 miles (248 km) of range per charge.

The Roadster 6 is also packed with safety and convenience features. Its ABS system offers three modes – Race, Urban, and Rain – to adapt to different riding conditions. The bike also features cornering ABS, ensuring optimal braking performance even when you're carving through those twisty roads.

Other notable features include double-spoke alloy wheels with disk brakes, a mono-shock rear suspension, a brake-by-wire system, and a 6.8-inch TFT touchscreen display mounted on the handlebar. Oh, and did I mention the 5G/Wi-Fi connectivity? Stay connected even when you're on the go.

If you're looking for a slightly more budget-friendly option, the Roadster X 4.5 might be your cup of tea. It ditches the Hyper mode, ABS, and mono-shock suspension and swaps the fancy TFT screen for a smaller 4.3-inch LED display. Peak power drops to 11 kW, resulting in a top speed of 77 mph (124 km/h) and a 0 to 25 mph time of 3 seconds. The estimated range is 124 miles (200 km) per charge.

Finally, we have the crown jewel of the Roadster lineup – the Roadster Pro. This electric beast reinstates all the bells and whistles of the Roadster 6 and then some. It packs a jaw-dropping 52 kW of peak power, enabling it to reach a blistering top speed of 121 mph (194 km/h). The 16 kWh battery promises a range of up to 360 miles (579 km) in Eco mode. The Pro also gets a larger 10-inch touchscreen display, perfect for navigating those long journeys.

The standard Roadster starts at a remarkably affordable ₹104,999 (about $1,250). The Roadster X is even more wallet-friendly, starting at ₹74,999 ($893). And even the range-topping Roadster Pro comes in at a surprisingly affordable ₹250,000 ($2,977). Small detail, though - all you need is to be in India. I just wish we had similar prices over here.

Well then - Ola Roadster. A family of e-motorcycles that offers an exciting glimpse into the future of electric mobility. With their impressive performance, long-riding range, and affordable price tags, these bikes have no choice but to shake up the motorcycle industry. As for me, I'm already dreaming of cruising down the open road on a Roadster Pro, wind in my hair and a smile on my face.

Anna McDee

Anna McDee, mother of two (bless their socks!), is a degreed engineer with a toolbox full of stories. After years of toiling behind the scenes, conjuring up technical marvels, she finally emerged, blinking into the sunlight. She discovered that electric propulsion can be fun, and decided to share her tales with the world. From dissecting the inner workings of a family minivan to pondering the aerodynamics of a soccer ball, Anna's curiosity is as boundless as a toddler's energy. Her writing is a delightful blend of technical insight, mom-isms, and the occasional "Eureka!" moment, usually accompanied by a celebratory cup of tea.
