The Electric Whirlwind That Is The Czinger Super-SUV: A True Testament to Ambition or Just Another Fad?
You know I've seen it all - I keep telling you that every time I write and it's not an overstatement, neither is it bragging. I've been in and under pretty much every car worth looking at (often not), I've taken apart way more vehicles than I have ever put back together. And while my love for good ol' combustion engines runs deep, the electric revolution has certainly put a spring in my otherwise jaded step. Speaking of which, ever heard of Czinger? The folks out in Los Angeles who’ve decided to throw their hat into the hypercar ring?
Now, after introducing the 21C, a car faster than my nephew escaping chores, Czinger is teasing us with a new “go-anywhere super-SUV”, seemingly inspired by the Lamborghini Urus. My first thought? “Oh, just what we needed, another power-hungry SUV,” I said sarcastically to myself as I sip my non-electric coffee.
This behemoth, still wrapped in mystery like an episode of Game of Thrones where someone doesn’t get beheaded, is set to replace the previously mentioned $1 million Hyper GT. It’ll sport a 1,233 hp twin-turbocharged 2.88-liter hybridized V8. You know, the casual sort of engine you'd expect in a car... or a jet. This monstrosity, in their 21C hypercar, claims a 0-62 mph in 1.9 seconds. To put that into perspective, that's faster than you saying, "I'll have fries with that." And the top speed? A staggering 253 mph (407 km/h).
Despite my love for cars, especially the kinds that can probably outpace light, I wonder how much of that power will be utilized in an SUV. With the increased weight and blocky stature, achieving such figures seems like a tall order. Sort of like expecting me to skip dessert - optimistic at best.
Visually, the SUV is expected to borrow design cues from the 21C and Hyper GT, flaunting aerodynamic sleekness and perhaps those captivating gullwing doors. (Perfect for those days when you're trying to look cool at the grocery store.) The inside is anyone's guess. Maybe it will come with cup holders that can hold my ever-growing skepticism?
Only 1,000 of these SUVs will be produced, so if you have between $750,000 and $1 million lying around, you might want to throw in your lot. Although you’ll be driving left-hand only, because making right-hand drives would, you know, cost a tad bit more. But hey, it’s roomy and packed with tech! Room for four adults, as long as two of them are contortionists, I assume.
But in all seriousness, Czinger, with its 3D-printing approach, is paving a new direction in the automotive world. While my skepticism does a gentle dance, I can't help but admire their audacity. With every new innovation, they're setting the stage for what the future could look like - faster, shinier, and hopefully, with enough room for my ego.
So, will this new Czinger SUV be the future ruler of the roads or just a flash in the pan? Thankfully we have the gift of time - it always tells the truth, whether we like it or not. Do we need more SUVs on our roads? Absolutely not. Do we need even faster cars? Well, there's a limit to what we can handle sensibly. That's my brain talking - my soul is kicking and screaming that it wants one right now.
Yours truly,
Captain Electro
