Rimac U-Turns On Electric Hypercars - Automobili Estrema To The Rescue
The hypercar world is about to get a whole lot more interesting. Or perhaps, a bit more confusing. Mate Rimac, the mad inventor behind the mind-blowing Rimac Nevera, seems to have done a bit of a handbrake turn on the whole electric hypercar concept. In a move that's left many scratching their heads, he's hinted that future Rimac models could be powered by diesel, hydrogen, or even – gasp – LPG. Yes. LPG. As in, the stuff we use to cook with, or keep our tents warm when we go camping.
Naturally, this has sent shockwaves through the automotive world. Electric hypercar enthusiasts are clutching their pearls, while petrolheads are doing victory donuts in their gas-guzzling muscle cars. And in the midst of this chaos, Gianfranco Pizzuto, the CEO of Automobili Estrema, has emerged as the voice of reason – or perhaps, the voice of electric defiance.
Pizzuto, like many of us, is bewildered by Rimac’s sudden change of heart. He suspects that its recent dalliance with Bugatti, the purveyor of petrol-powered beasts, has something to do with it. It's every bit like a reformed chocoholic taking a job in a Willy Wonka factory – sooner or later, they're going to succumb to temptation.
But Pizzuto isn't giving up on the electric dream just yet. He firmly believes that electric power is the future for hypercars, and he's got a point. The Rimac Nevera itself is a testament to the incredible performance and potential of electric powertrains. With its 1,914 horsepower and 1,741 pound-feet of torque, this Croatian electric missile can hit 60 mph in a mind-boggling 1.85 seconds. It's a technological tour de force, showcasing what's possible when you ditch the dinosaur juice and embrace the electron.
Of course, there are those who argue that electric cars lack the soul and visceral appeal of a screaming V12, or my favorite - growling V8. But as Pizzuto so eloquently puts it, a hypercar is more than just its engine. It's a symphony of design, technology, and raw, unadulterated speed. And electric powertrains offer a whole new dimension to this symphony.
Take the Automobili Estrema Fulminea, for example. This all-electric masterpiece boasts a staggering 2,040 horsepower and a top speed that would make a fighter jet blush. And yet, it weighs just 3,307 lbs (1,500 kilograms), thanks to its lightweight construction and cutting-edge battery technology. It's a technological marvel that proves electric hypercars can be just as breathtaking as their petrol-powered brethren.
So, what does this all mean for the future of hypercars? Will we see a resurgence of gas-guzzling monsters, or will electric power continue its relentless march towards dominance? The time, my dear friend, will answer all our questions, eventually. But there’s one thing we can bet on: the hypercar world is in for a wild ride. And as for Mate Rimac's U-turn? Well, only he knows what's truly going on in that brilliant mind of his. Whatever comes next, we'll be watching closely, popcorn in hand, as this electrifying saga unfolds.
