Kia's Electric Van Revolution: New Vehicle & Factory Announced!

Kia has thrown down the gauntlet, proclaiming that they're ready to electrify the commercial vehicle world with their latest creation - "purpose-built vehicles," or PBVs. And they're not just flirting with the idea; they're going all-in, sinking a whopping 1 trillion won (that's a cool $758 million) into an all-new, state-of-the-art production facility right in South Korea.

Now, we all know that the commercial vehicle sector has been somewhat reluctant to let go of its dear ICE engines, especially when it comes to diesel-powered workhorses that lug trailers around. But times are changing, and even big players like Kia are starting to see the electric light.

This bold move is part of the Hyundai Group's grand plan to secure a spot among the top three global automakers by 2030. Talk about shooting for the stars! The spanking new plant, which has already had its groundbreaking ceremony, is set to start churning out vehicles in 2025, with an impressive annual production capacity of 150,000 units.

Kia has been rather coy about the specific details of these mysterious PBVs. All we've got to feast our eyes on is a rather Canoo-esque render of electric vans. What we do know is that these vehicles will be built on the all-new "eS" electric skateboard platform, with the company employing a "flexible production method" for easy transitioning between various vehicle variants.

The PBV lineup is scheduled for a full launch in 2025, ahead of mass production at the shiny new plant. These versatile vehicles could be anything from logistics carriers and fresh food delivery vans to multi-seat shuttles and mobile offices. The possibilities are endless!

So buckle up, folks, because Kia is about to take us on a wild, electrifying ride into the future of commercial vehicles. And knowing Kia, it's going to be quite the adventure.

Yours truly,

Captain Electro.
