Step right up, folks, and bear witness to the next marvelous chapter of Lamborghini's illustrious history! The Italian maestros, famous for their raging bulls, have decided to break away from their rebellious streak of producing gas-guzzling behemoths and have finally caved to the seductive allure of electric propulsion. But wait, before you get your racing gloves in a twist, no, it won't be a roaring supercar as we've come to expect from Lamborghini. Brace yourselves - it's a 2+2 Grand Tourer, slated to make its electrifying debut in 2028.

Yeah, you heard right. Apparently, Lamborghini's top brass don't think electric technology is ready for a supercar performance just yet. Chief Technical Officer, Rouven Mohr, has openly voiced his concerns about the unpredictability of current EV technology when it comes to performance, depending heavily on the battery's charge and temperature. It's a bit like making a world-class athlete run a marathon with a full stomach – not ideal.

This means Lamborghini's first flirtation with electric is not going to be a track demon but a cruiser – a user-oriented car focused on everyday usability. It's quite a departure from their usual style of producing hardcore sports cars that make you feel like you've just strapped yourself to a rocket. But hey, the Urus SUV wasn't a sports car either, and it's currently the brand's best-selling vehicle. So, it's safe to say Lamborghini knows what it's doing.

Now, if you're expecting the new EV to just be a glorified golf cart, think again. It's the Lamborghini we're talking about here, and if they know one thing, it's how to make a car go fast. So, it's a safe bet that the new electric grand tourer will be fast. But, it might be wise to avoid challenging any Porsches at the traffic lights.

So, what can we expect from this unexpected foray into electric vehicles? Well, we know it will be a 2+2 Grand Tourer, a format Lamborghini hasn't dabbled with for some time. Yet, in their early days, Lamborghini had quite a portfolio of front-engine grand tourers such as the 400 GT, Urraco, Espada, Islero, and more. The new electric vehicle might not roar as they once did, but we can expect a certain level of grandeur, elegance, and of course, speed.

The speculation of Lamborghini resurrecting the Asterion project is also gaining traction. The hybrid hypercar was a sensation when it was unveiled in 2014, boasting 910hp courtesy of a V10 engine from the Huracan and three electric motors. Could Lamborghini be planning to take a page out of its own book and give us something akin to a modern, electric Asterion?

As the EV future looms, Lamborghini seems content to wait and watch the plot unfold. They believe the technology will mature in five to six years, aligning perfectly with the launch of their first EV. With such a relaxed attitude, you'd think they were lounging at a café in Rome, sipping an espresso.

Lamborghini's commitment to electrification might not be as immediate as we might have hoped, but let's remember, Rome wasn't built in a day. When the Italian bull finally charges into the electric arena, we can be sure it will be worth the wait.

Yours truly,

Captain Electro
