Evija Finally Arrives! Did Lotus Forget to Charge It?

The wait is finally over. After what felt like an eternity (and a global pandemic, to be fair), the Lotus Evija, the electric hypercar that promised to redefine speed and luxury, is finally heading for the driveways of a select few. But didn't this thing come out, like, five years ago? Yes, you'd be right. Announced with much fanfare back in 2019, the Evija was supposed to hit the streets by the end of 2020. But, as with all good things (and most things Lotus, let's be honest), it took a little longer than expected.

So, what exactly were we waiting for? Well, besides the obvious global supply chain hiccups and the minor inconvenience of a worldwide pandemic, Lotus was busy crafting a masterpiece. This isn't just some electric car; it's a 2,011 horsepower, four-wheel-drive monster that can go from 0 to 190 mph faster than you can say "electrifying." And with a top speed of 218 mph, it's not exactly a slouch in the top-end department either.

But isn't the Rimac Nevera faster? Yes, you'd be right again (annoying, isn't it?), as long as you mean 0 to 60 mph. After that, it's a really close call between the two. Plus, the Evija has a few tricks up its sleeve. It's lighter than the Nevera, thanks to its carbon fiber construction, and it also has a more aerodynamic design. That last bit helps it cut through the air like a hot knife through butter (or, perhaps more appropriately, like a Lotus through the air).

What about the price? You might wanna sit down for this one - this thing will set you back a cool $2.7 million. That's enough to buy a small island, a private jet, or a lifetime supply of those little sausages they serve at car dealerships (you know the ones I'm talking about). But if you worked hard (or smart) for it, and you've got the cash to splash - why not? There's no chance in the world you're going to find another car that looks even remotely like this on the road.

There's no other way to put it - the Evija is a stunner. It's got all the classic Lotus design cues, like the low-slung profile and the flowing lines. But it also has a futuristic edge, with its sharp angles and aggressive stance. It's a spaceship that's been shrunk down to the size of a car.

But enough about the looks, let's get down to the bee's knees. The Evija is powered by four electric motors, one for each wheel. This gives it all-wheel drive and allows for some serious torque vectoring. And it needs it - 1,254 lb-ft of twisting power is not something to take lightly. If unleashed without the digital nanny scrambling to make something useful out of this mountain of torque, it's quite possible the Earth would stop spinning.

But what about the range? After all, this is an electric supercar, right? And that's a good question. Lotus claims the Evija has a range of 250 miles. But I guess if you're buying this car, you're probably not too worried about range anxiety. You're probably more concerned with finding a racetrack where you can unleash its full potential.

Today, we have a nice little reason to celebrate - the Lotus Evija is finally here. It's expensive, it's exclusive, and it's absolutely bonkers. But it's also a masterpiece of engineering and a glimpse into the future of electric cars. And I like it. A lot. Now - when's the next lottery game?
