Desner A05 Is a Car, But It's a Quadricycle As Well And It's...Cute?

Alright, petrolheads and eco-warriors, let's talk about the Desner A05, a vehicle so small, it practically whispers its presence. When I say this little quadricycle is cute, I mean it. It's like a puppy you just want to put in your purse (don't do that, by the way).

This tiny vehicle is the antithesis of your typical gas-guzzling SUV. It is the automotive equivalent of a chihuahua – small, surprisingly feisty, and probably more popular in Europe than in Texas. It's designed for city life, where parking spaces are smaller than my patience for traffic jams, and zipping around is the name of the game.

Desner, the company behind this creation, calls it a quadricycle. Which sounds like something a supervillain would never ride. But in Europe, this classification means it can be driven by 14-year-olds. While you're still trying to figure out how to parallel park your dad's pickup truck, little Timmy or Tina could be cruising around in this electric bean. Now, that's what I'd call a head start in the automotive world!

Powering this pocket rocket (not really) is a 3-kW motor. 3 kW? That's probably less powerful than my blender! But Desner assures us that it can handle any slope without losing torque or acceleration. Which is good news, because if you live in San Francisco, you'll need all the help you can get.

The 7.2-kWh battery gives you a range of about 74.5 miles. Perfect for a quick trip to the grocery store or, you know, a leisurely drive around the neighborhood to show off your new ride to all the other 14-year-olds.

Inside, it's surprisingly spacious, considering the A05's diminutive dimensions (102.6 inches long, 55 inches wide, and 64.4 inches tall). You've got room for two people, side-by-side, and a trunk big enough for a few bags of groceries. This really is the ultimate shopping cart.

And because it's the 21st century, the A05 comes with a digital cockpit, a tablet-sized display with Android connectivity, and "high-performance" speakers. So, you can blast your favorite tunes while you're zipping around town, pretending you're in a real car. Just don't try to race anyone. You'll probably lose.

Desner has also thoughtfully included heating and air conditioning. Because even though it's small, you still deserve to be comfortable. And, because safety is important (especially when you're driving something that's smaller than most Smart cars), the A05 has a reinforced steel structure, alloy wheels, and disc brakes front and rear.

Now, for the price. The Desner A05 will set you back about $10,400. But if you pre-order it, you can get a discount of over $2,000. Which is a pretty good deal, considering you're basically getting a car… or a quadricycle… or whatever it is.

The A05 is expected to be available in the second quarter of 2025. If you're looking for a small, electric, and surprisingly fun way to get around town, this might just be the vehicle for you. Just don't expect to win any drag races.

Anna McDee, mother of two (bless their socks!), is a degreed engineer with a toolbox full of stories. After years of toiling behind the scenes, conjuring up technical marvels, she finally emerged, blinking into the sunlight. She discovered that electric propulsion can be fun, and decided to share her tales with the world. From dissecting the inner workings of a family minivan to pondering the aerodynamics of a soccer ball, Anna's curiosity is as boundless as a toddler's energy. Her writing is a delightful blend of technical insight, mom-isms, and the occasional "Eureka!" moment, usually accompanied by a celebratory cup of tea.
