As we all know, the Mini Aceman has always been intended to be a cheeky little rascal of the automotive world. And now, in a surprising twist, it's teaming up with... wait for it... Pokemon!

Yes, you heard me right – at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, Mini has unveiled the Aceman Pokemon Mode, in a bizarre and somewhat futile attempt to appeal to a younger generation. It's like watching your grandad trying to breakdance at a rave.

But let me tell you about the car itself. This Mini Aceman has Pikachu taking over its main screen, and when you start the car, lightning bolts shoot out toward the sides. It's all done through some fancy overhead projectors, turning the dashboard into something resembling a Saturday morning cartoon.

And as if that wasn't enough, there's another projector at the front of the car, turning any flat surface into a gaming screen or drive-in cinema. It's a stroke of genius, really – who cares about charging times when you can just watch a movie?

You can plug in your gaming console and play to your heart's content on the main screen or the projected one. Mini didn't specify which consoles work, but I reckon it's just an HDMI connection, so anyone can join the party.

The Mini Aceman Pokemon Mode was unveiled in a toy-like box with a clear window and spare wheels as if they were trying to sell it like an action figure. They've even slapped on Pokemon balls as wheel centers and obligatory X-O symbols – talk about attention to detail!

But it doesn't end there. Mini has also introduced the MINIverse, a virtual world where fans could explore city districts and interact with the Aceman. It worked on any platform via URL, but you had to be at Gamescom to access it. Which is a bit like saying you can only eat ice cream if you're standing on one leg.

Now, I love a good Mini, especially the electric one. They're cool and appeal to a different crowd. But this frantic effort to engage the youth by employing Pokemon is as trendy as the Pope hawking cannabis at a dodgy junction. Give it a rest, Mini – we can do without this nonsense. 

The front projector, on the other hand, is actually a brilliant idea. It's perfect for charging stops, camping trips, or even those lonely nights in the garage when you've fallen out with the missus. In fact, the Mini Aceman might just save a few marriages. Now that's a much better selling point than some yellow rodent shooting lightning bolts from its behind, plus it adds a touch of practicality to the vehicle that you never knew you needed.
