McMurtry's Fan Car Sucks the Wind Right Out of Mercedes AMG One's Sails!

Little ol' McMurtry Automotive, who you've probably never heard of, just waltzed into Hockenheim with their Speirling PURE car and snatched the track record right out of the Mercedes AMG One's manicured hands. And honey, they didn't just snatch it, they grabbed it by the scruff of the neck and ran off giggling like a schoolkid with a stolen cookie!

This little electric firecracker, affectionately nicknamed the "fan car" because of its twin vacuum-creating fans underneath, just shaved a whopping 14.1 seconds off the lap time! Can you believe it? That's like taking a whole commercial break out of your favorite sitcom!

Now, the Speirling PURE is no slouch. It's got two motors pushing out a gut-punching 1,000 horsepower (746 kW for my metric darlings) that can catapult this 2,205-lb (1,000.1 kg) featherweight from 0 to 60 mph (96.6 km/h) in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it 1.4 seconds. And if you think that's fast, just wait until you hear this: it can cover a quarter mile in under 8 seconds!

When the Speirling set this new record, the car was only running at 75% power and downforce. That’s not much different from Usain Bolt winning a race while whistling Dixie. McMurtry technicians are planning to crank it up to 11 later this year. I can't even imagine what that'll look like. Picture a unicorn riding a rocket-powered skateboard - and you’re nearly there.

The secret weapon here is those twin fans. They generate a whopping 4,400 lbs (2,000 kg) of downforce, which feels like a baby elephant sitting on your roof. This thing sticks to the track like a cat to a scratching post.

The Mercedes AMG One, the former track champ, got its lap time smoked by a tiny electric car with a couple of fans. I guess you could say the Mercedes got blown away, huh? Okay, okay, I'll stop. But seriously, this is a revolution. The future of racing is electric, and it's got a whole lot of suction.

And if you're still not convinced, just watch the video of this little speed demon swallowing up supercars like the Porsche GT-3 and Pagani Huayra R. It's like watching a chihuahua chase off a pack of wolves!
