Eli Zero Is More Than Just a Glorified Go-Kart

Look, there’s no other way to put it - city driving is about as enjoyable as a root canal. Traffic jams, parking wars, and the constant search for a charging station that isn't occupied by a smug Tesla driver can make even the most zen among us want to chuck a bagel at the nearest Prius. But fear not, fellow urban warriors! A new contender has entered the arena, and it's definitely not your average gas-guzzler or even your run-of-the-mill electric car. It's the Eli Zero, and it's here to make city driving fun again. Apparently.

Imagine a vehicle smaller than a Smart car but roomier than a clown car (no offense to clowns). That's the Eli Zero in a nutshell. With dimensions of just 88.6 x 54.3 x 64.4 inches (2,250 x 1,379 x 1,635 mm), this little electric wonder is designed to zip through traffic and squeeze into parking spots that would make a Mini Cooper break out in a cold sweat. And with a turning circle of just 23 feet (7 m), it can practically turn on a dime (or maybe a nickel, given its size).

But don't let its diminutive stature fool you. The Eli Zero packs a half-decent punch with a 6-kW rear-wheel-drive electric motor that can propel it to a top speed of 25 mph (40 km/h). Sure, the only drag races you’ll ever win will be with mobility scooters. But it's more than enough for cruising around town, running errands, or even taking a leisurely drive through the park (provided the park ranger doesn't mistake it for a rogue shopping cart).

The Eli Zero comes in two flavors: the standard model with an 8-kWh battery pack that offers up to 60 miles (~95 km) of range, or the Plus version with a 12-kWh battery that can go up to 90 miles (~145 km) on a single charge. So, whether you're a city slicker or a suburban dweller, the Eli Zero has got you covered. And with regenerative braking and an Eco mode, you can squeeze even more miles out of each charge.

The interior is surprisingly spacious for such a small vehicle. Two adults can sit comfortably side-by-side, and there's even a push-up tilting sunroof to let in some sunshine and fresh air. The standard model comes with fabric seats, while the Plus version upgrades to vegan leather (because even cows deserve a break). And with features like keyless entry and start, air conditioning, a digital instrument display, and a rearview camera with parking sensors, the Eli Zero is more luxurious than some full-sized cars I've driven.

Of course, no car is perfect, and the Eli Zero has its quirks. The standard model lacks ABS and power steering, and the infotainment system is optional. But for a starting price of just $11,990, it's hard to complain. And with a production capacity of over 4,000 vehicles per year, Eli is clearly serious about making the Zero a success.

So, if you're tired of the daily grind of city driving and looking for a fun, affordable, and eco-friendly alternative, the Eli Zero might just be the answer to your prayers. It's not the fastest or the fanciest car on the market, but it's certainly one of the most unique and charming. And who knows, you might even start enjoying your commute again. Just try not to get too distracted by the envious stares of other drivers stuck in traffic.
