Ahoy, my sea-faring (and land-locked) friends! Just when you thought the world of electric watercraft was calmly cruising along, X Shore, our trusty Swedish shipmates, dropped an anchor... right onto our anticipatory toes. They've been teasing a new nautical wonder for the past week, and I can't help but wonder if they might've accidentally (or "accidentally") given too much away. 

You see, when I read X Shore's social media proclamation, "Dropping anchor in a new segment. A true game-changer for maritime masters at work", announced for a future date of 09.14.2023, my grey cells kicked into high gear. What could this mean? Are we finally getting a boat that can make me a sandwich? Or perhaps an electric anchor? The teaser, much like a mystery novel you can't quite figure out, left me intrigued.

And then, oh-ho! The plot thickened. We got another glimpse, courtesy of a new teaser image. Now, I've been around enough engines, wings, wheels, and hulls to know an intentional slip when I see one. The image showed what seems to be the stern of a cabin workboat. For those who haven't been cruising the chilly waters of Scandinavia, a cabin workboat is pretty much the SUV of those waters—practical and popular.

X Shore CEO Jenny Keisu, cheekily commented, “Oops! Did we show too much this time? Our big little secret is slightly bigger this time for sure…” Now, I've seen enough 'accidental' teaser images in my time to know that the "oops" might be as calculated as my grandma's poker face. 

As for the speculations on the teaser? Some say it's an X Shore cabin workboat; others are hoping for a moon lander. But let's be practical; I'm quite certain Elon hasn't shared his Mars plans with X Shore... yet. So the cabin workboat seems to be a more grounded (or shall I say, buoyed?) guess.

Now, if you've been keeping tabs on X Shore like I have (because what else would you be doing?), you'd know that their offerings so far have been rather... leisurely. Their Eelex 8000 and X Shore 1 are luxury craft that I'd gladly spend a weekend on, possibly sipping a martini. But a workboat? This would mean they're venturing into the practical waters. Does this remind anyone else of when SUVs first made their presence felt in the automobile world? Old habits die hard, but I reckon it's a smart move.

It's a transition we've seen before. Candela, a fellow Swede and electric boat maker, shifted from speedboats to more utilitarian ferry and taxi boats. Maybe it's something in the Swedish waters. Or the meatballs.

In just three days, the big X Shore secret will be unveiled. Whether it's a ground-breaking commercial vessel or just another boat to add to the luxury line-up, I'm on the edge of my seat. Or should I say, on the edge of my dock? But for now, we sail on the seas of suspense. 

Hang tight, maritime mates. We're in for a ride, or should I say, a sail.
