Now, as a grizzled veteran of all things that move (preferably fast and with style), I've seen my fair share of promises about the future of transportation. So what's the buzz? Well, for starters, Volocopter, a German outfit, has pulled off a fancy first in Florida - a successful eVTOL flight at a major U.S. airport. Their VoloCity, also known as the Volocopter 2X, is a snazzy little two-seater with a whopping 18 rotors. It's like a swarm of bees decided to form a helicopter. This battery-swappable, electric air taxi is eyeing the sunny skies of Florida for its debut. Tampa, Orlando, or Miami - one of these cities might soon witness these electric buzzers zipping around.

New York City, never one to be outdone, witnessed Volocopter 2X and Joby Aviation's eVTOL flirting with the iconic skyline. Joby Aviation - California-based company, already making waves with a $131 million contract with the U.S. Air Force, is now eyeing the Big Apple for its air taxi operations. And they're not alone - BETA Technologies is also throwing its hat into the ring with its ALIA eCTOL. 

The Volocopter 2X and Joby's eVTOL are still under wraps in terms of full specs, but we're talking about aircraft that promise to change the way we think about urban transportation. No more honking in traffic for an hour to catch a flight when you can just whizz through the sky in minutes. And all this with the sweet, sweet sound of silence - well, electric motors don't exactly roar like a Mustang, but hey, it's progress!

On the financial front, we're still playing the guessing game. But let's be real, if you have to ask, you probably can't afford it. Yet, for the sake of our eco-friendly future, let's hope these flying wonders won't cost an arm and a leg. As for the FAA and EASA certifications, that's a journey in itself. 

Joby's eVTOL, in partnership with Delta Airlines, is aiming to turn your dreaded airport commute into a breezy seven-minute sky cruise. That's right, seven minutes from Manhattan to JFK! I mean, I can barely finish my coffee in that time.

As much as I love my gas-guzzling beauties, I can't help but be a little excited (and skeptical, of course) about these electric newcomers. They promise a quieter, cleaner, and more efficient future. But as we all know, the road (or should I say, sky?) to innovation is bumpy.
